Wine of the Month: Cirrus Syrah 2015
The Cirrus Wine Company (Stellenbosch, South Africa) was established on the grounds of many years of friendship and synergy between two families, across two continents, that share a mutual love for wine.
Proprietors Jean Engelbrecht (Rust en Vrede, South Africa) and Ray Duncan (Silver Oak Cellars, Napa Wine Valley, California) share the long-term view that wine, above all, should bring people together.
The Cirrus Syrah 2015 is an expression of exactly that. Since its maiden vintage in 2003, the Cirrus Syrah has succeeded in capturing the very essence of a Syrah that is influenced by both the wine philosophy of Stellenbosch, as well as the knowledge and understanding of California’s Napa Wine Valley Wine Country.
The wine was matured for 18 months in French Oak barrels, followed by 18 months bottle maturation before final release in 2018. It has a deep ruby appearance with aromas of fresh red fruits, supported by gentle black cherries and raspberries – this wine is set with freshness and complexity.
The palate is lively and clean, with subtle hints of dried spices from oak contact, which give an added richness to its viscosity.
A delicious way to experience our Rainbow Nation is through its food.
